Garage Build - Finishing the Job

Minneapolis, MN

The homeowner had the slab ready, we came in and built out the rest of the garage for him.

Project Overview

Client Need:

The homeowner was looking to add to add a garage to his property. He had purchased a garage kit and got started himself. But once he realized that he wasn't going to finish the job himself before winter, He decided to contact professional contractor who could come in and complete the installation. Someone who could take the existing foundation and kit and finish the job properly, making sure everything was installed correctly and met all building codes requirements.

How We Helped:

The homeowner called us to get the job done.

When we got started, we realized the garage was positioned too close to the lot line, the property boundary between the homeowner's property and his neighbor's. This positioning triggered specific fire code requirements that weren't part of the original kit design. We had to install fire-resistant sheeting on the side of the garage facing the property line.

This is where contractor knowledge becomes valuable. We know what local codes require, what additional materials might be needed, and how to ensure everything meets safety and building standards. A DIY installer might not recognize these needs until they run into problems during inspection or, worse, after the structure is built.

The project took about two weeks, probably would have been quicker if we didn't run into the fire-code issue, and for the lacking of a few materials that were missing from the kit.

Throughout the project, we maintained communication with the homeowner, keeping the informed of progress and any issues we encountered. When we discovered the fire code requirement, we explained what needed to be done and why, ensuring he understood the necessity of the additional work.

The finished garage is a fully functional structure that meets all local building codes, including fire safety requirements. The homeowner now has a garage before our good ol' Minnesota winter hit, and we all know how nice garages are then!2
