A New Farmhouse Porch After Storm Damage

Cambridge, MN

When a storm rolled through the area, the homeowner's porch was destroyed by a tree. We at SJ Carpentry were ready to replace that porch with a bigger and better one!

Project Overview

Client Need:

The homeowner lost their porch in a severe storm that went through the area last year. A large tree had landed on their porch, just missing their house. They reached out to us for options on rebuilding the deck.

How We Helped:

What started as a tree on a porch, became an opportunity to build something better than before.

The original porch was mostly decorative. Instead of simply rebuilding it the same way, the homeowner wanted to make something more useable, so they could fit the whole family, and add a porch swing. We worked with them to find the right size and layout they were looking for!

Because the home was built in the 1800s and sits close to two roads, the project required a city variance to meet modern setback rules. Once we got that approved, we were able to get started on the build, keeping the homeowner updated on a weekly basis.

We were able to tie into the existing older but sturdy structure. We used treated lumber, and as per the recommendation, the homeowner is going to wait until the wood is thoroughly dry to paint it white, to match the rest of the house.

This project highlights our ability to work with city regulations, and work with the homeowner to build what will work best for them.
