Project Overview
Client Need:
The homeowner had an old deck that had reached the end of its useful life and needed complete replacement rather than repair or renovation. The existing deck structure was deteriorated enough that a full rebuild was necessary - this wasn't a situation where surface replacement or minor repairs would suffice. They needed someone who could completely tear down the old deck and construct a new one from the ground up, creating a modern, low-maintenance outdoor living space. The new deck needed to maintain the same size as the existing one to preserve the outdoor living area she was accustomed to, and add a drink rail along the top of the railing for added functionality and aesthetic appeal. They were interested in composite decking for its low-maintenance benefits and longevity, but needed to find options that were budget-friendly since composite decking are on the more expensive side. They needed a contractor who could help them pick the right materials for their needs and within their budget, and get the job done!
How We Helped:
The homeowner's old deck had reached the point where complete replacement was necessary, so they reached out to us. They wanted a deck the same size of the old one, but with a few additional features. They also wanted to run with composite decking for it's low-maintenance attributes, but realized many of these types of boards can be pricey.
We brought over samples so they could check out the different options, and actually see them all in person. After reviewing the samples They decided to choose the Deckorators brand composite decking. This brand offered a good balance - it provided the low-maintenance benefits and longevity she was seeking, but at a more budget-friendly price. We thought this fit the need the homeowner was looking for.
Off to the demolition phase! We completely tore down the old deck, removing all materials and clearing the site for new construction. The removal of the large planter box was part of this process, creating a cleaner, more open deck space. Once demolition was complete, we had a clean slate to work with.
We built the new deck structure, installed the decking and the railing.
The finished deck is beautiful and functional, and it will serve the homeowner well for many years. The composite decking provides the low-maintenance solution they wanted, and the drink rail is just an added touch!
