Project Overview
Client Need:
The homeowner had an existing bathroom and laundry room combination in her basement that did the job but didn't look good or fit her needs. The space was more of a utility area than a proper bathroom. They wanted to transform this basic utility space into a nicer, more finished bathroom that would look stylish and function the best the space could.
How We Helped:
The homeowner's bathroom renovation project was one of those jobs that demonstrates why experience and problem-solving skills are so valuable in construction.
This project involved renovating an existing bathroom and laundry room. The space was functional but old and tired, and it needed a complete transformation to meet the homeowner's wants and needs.
The renovation process began with complete demolition. We removed all existing fixtures, walls, and finishes, taking everything down to the studs and concrete.
Once demolition was complete, we faced our first major challenge: the existing plumbing was hanging down quite low in the ceiling area. This created a significant dilemma about the best approach to handle it. We had several options to consider:
We ultimately decided to install a drop ceiling instead of a drywall ceiling. This avoided the need to move all the plumbing, which would have increased the project cost by a bit. The drop ceiling provided a budget-friendly solution that still look professional.
But the issues that appeared didn't end there. During the work, we discovered broken wires, and a damaged joist. We didn't just cover this up. We repaired it the right way. You never know what you'll find until you start opening things up. Our experience allows us to identify and address these issues before they become problems.
The homeowner was proactive in their research, gathering inspo photos that helped us find the style they were looking for. The homeowner actually tracked down a product that looks like tile but is actually made from fiberglass panels that can be cut down to fit any shower size. A price-friendly and budget-friendly alternative. but looks real as ever, An awesome product!
The installation process went smoothly once we had addressed the challenges. We cut new channels in the concrete for plumbing, installed new insulation, framed the walls back out, and finished the space with drywall, paint, and LVP (Luxury Vinyl Plank) flooring. The LVP was a good choice for the bathroom environment because it's water-resistant and durable, while still being budget-friendly.
The project took approximately two months to complete, which is consistent with other basement bathroom projects of similar scope. Throughout the process, we communicated weekly with the homeowner, providing updates and answering any questions or concerns.
The finished space is a complete transformation. What was an outdated bathroom and laundry room combo, is now a new, stylish combo and functions better for the homeowner, and looks better too!
